Six Week Muffins

2 cups boiling water
2 cups Nabisco 100 % Bran
4 cups Kellogg All Bran
5 cups flour
5 tsp baking soda
1 Tbsp salt
1 cup shortening
3 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 quart buttermilk
raisins/nuts/dates

Pour boiling water over Nabisco 100% Bran.  Let stand.  Sift together flour, soda, and salt.  Cream Crisco and sugar.  Add eggs, buttermilk, and Kellogg All Bran.  Combine all three mixtures.  Mix only until moist.  Add nuts, raisins, or dates if desired. Put in covered container and store in fridge.  Bake as needed in muffin tins at 400 degrees for 15 minutes.

Note:  These were always awesome when Mom made them – super moist and delicious!  I think the cereal companies stopped manufacturing one of the cereals above, so she hasn’t made them in years.  Maybe try to find a substitute cereal.
