Snickerdoodles

1 cup butter, softened
1-1/3 cup sugar
2 eggs
3 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar mixed with 2 teaspoons cinnamon
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla

Preheat oven to 400°F. Mix together flour, cream of tartar, and baking soda. Set mixture aside. Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time, add vanilla. Reduce mixer speed and mix in flour mixture until well combined. With hands, roll dough into small balls about the size of large walnut. Roll balls in the cinnamon/sugar and set on baking sheet with each about 1 inch apart. Bake ten minutes or until tops of cookies are lightly golden and somewhat crackly. Remove from oven to wire rack to cool after a minute or so of cooling on baking sheet.
